Highway upgrade boosts lifestyle benefits of Greenwood Grove

The ideal balance of tranquil living within easy reach of services offered at Greenwood Grove is being further enhanced, with the State Government recently starting work to upgrade the Bruce Highway.

Improvements are being made between Sankeys Road and Traveston Road, some 11 kilometres from the new residential estate, which will move traffic further away from Greenwood Grove and ensure the idyllic lifestyle on offer remains undisturbed.

On completion, the Bruce Highway will also benefit residents who travel to Gympie for leisure and work by providing a safer and more relaxed journey.

The Queensland Government prioritised the upgrade of this section of the Highway due to safety and traffic needs and preliminary works began in July 2009 as part of the $613 million Bruce Highway upgrade between Cooroy and Curra.

The Highway provides direct access to the quiet town of Cooroy, in which Greenwood Grove is located.

Conveniently positioned in easy reach of the delights of Noosa and Tewantin, both just 15 minutes away, Greenwood Grove provides a relaxed lifestyle in a leafy, natural setting.

There are currently a range of homesites available in the community to suit many budgets and lifestyles, as well as two house and land packages to choose from.

For more information contact Tina on 5442 5833. You can also visit the land sales office at 22 Dunbar Court, Cooroy from 10pm to 5pm, Saturday to Wednesday.

Peet supports bushfire recovery in Victoria

Peet Limited has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to provide practical help to bushfire-affected communities in Victoria, with a shipping container packed with tools recently delivered to the community of Traralgon.

The ‘Tool Library’ is filled with power tools and DIY equipment, which will be available to community members in Traralgon and surrounding areas to help re-build their homes following February’s devastating fires.

The Traralgon Lions Club has taken receipt of the Peet-sponsored Tool Library, which is one of five that will operate in areas including Flowerdale, Kinglake West, Strathewen and Marysville.

Community members will be able to register to use equipment free-of-charge to undertake reconstruction projects and, in time, restart hobbies, interests and DIY activities that have been interrupted by the bushfires.

Peet Limited Managing Director Brendan Gore said the project would provide significant benefits to the affected communities.

“Peet is focused on building new communities, so we’re pleased to help people affected by bushfires to re-build theirs,” he said.

“The libraries are stocked with a range of tools, including hand tools, chainsaws, digging tools, safety equipment, fencing equipment and more, which have been collated by volunteers at Habitat for Humanity.

“We’ve been pleased to be involved with the process and worthwhile project overall.”

After the need for the facilities has passed, the Tool Libraries will be donated to community groups that manage them during the life of the project.

School garden blooms with Peet support

Students from Bray Park High School are transforming unused grounds into an organic herb and vegetable garden with the support Peet Limited’s Warner Lakes residential estate.

Peet helped Bray Park High School purchase essential equipment to create the new garden, which is part of the school’s Special Education Program.

Bray Park High School Special Education Teacher Kelly Klibbe said the gardens are operated and maintained by students with special needs, providing education and lifestyle benefits for the young green-thumbs.

“It enables students to gain valuable hands-on experience growing their own food, learning about the science of plants and weather and working as a team to complete a major project,” said Ms Klibbe.

“Peet’s generous donation has provided much needed assistance to help make the project successful and the group has already been working hard to prepare the garden.

“We’ve installed a worm farm and our organic herb garden is growing well. We hope to begin planting soon.”

Peet Limited Managing Director and CEO Brendan Gore welcomed the opportunity for Peet to be involved in the project and to support the community surrounding Warner Lakes estate.

“We are pleased to contribute to a project that provides a valuable learning experience for students and also demonstrates environmentally responsible land management,” said Mr Gore.

Water all clear at Warner Lakes

Water at Warner Lakes has been given a clean bill of health, with the Queensland Government confirming high-fluoride water accidently released from a nearby water treatment plant never reached the estate.

In late April 2009, an incident at North Pine Dam water treatment plant resulted in small amount of water being released from the plant with excessive fluoride levels.

An independent investigation has found the affected water never reached the ‘trunk line’ that services Warner Lakes, clearing any concerns of the residents at Peet Limited’s popular Warner Lakes estate.

The Government has, however, confirmed the affected water may have been consumed by children at a YMCA camp and four houses on the treatment plant site for one hour, between 8am and 9am, on 30 April 2009 and possibly up to 500 residents in Joyner.

Young lifesavers paddle out on new Australind Heights-Twin Rivers boards

The recent delivery of two new racing boards could give young Bunbury surf life savers the edge when they compete at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships at Scarborough Beach (17-22 March 2009).

Australind Heights-Twin Rivers estate has provided the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club with $3,000 in sponsorship to purchase the new under-14 senior racing boards.

The boards will be used by members to develop their surf board rescue and life saving skills, and at competitions throughout the State.

It’s the second community sponsorship given by the estate. Last month, Leschenault Cricket Club received $3,000 to purchase new training and travelling shirts for junior members and to help subsidise player’s costs for the Peel Junior Cricket Carnival.

Australind Heights-Twin Rivers is a 126-lot estate managed by Peet Limited on behalf of the Marist Brothers.

Peet Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Brendan Gore, said the project team working on the estate was proud to be supporting the Club’s members, who provided an important community service.

“The City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club assists hundreds of local people and tourists who get into trouble on the beach or in the water each summer,” Mr Gore said.

“The Club also has a proud competitive history and we are delighted to be able to supply these boards and help members perform at their peak at the upcoming national titles.

“This sponsorship is all about our development helping to support the local community.”

City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club President, Peter Duncan, said the support from Australind Heights-Twin Rivers estate would help the Club continue to develop.

“These boards really are the latest and the best in terms of life saving equipment and will help us to encourage young people to get involved in providing surf life saving services on our beaches,” Mr Duncan said.

“It is vital that we continue to develop, engage and retain our young members. Training and competing on these boards will help them develop invaluable life saving and competition skills, and enable us to provide our community with the most skilled and capable life savers that our region has to offer.”

Coinciding with its support of the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club, Peet Limited has released a special promotion offering the first 10 buyers of 2009 a $20,000 saving on the price of each homesite at Australind Heights-Twin Rivers estate, with prices starting from $144,900.

First homebuyers can purchase a homesite at the estate for less than $125,000, if they qualify for the Federal Government’s current First Home Owners Boost of $21,000. The Boost is available to first-time buyers who sign a contract to buy or build a new home before 30 June 2009.

However, buyers will need to be quick to take advantage of these offers – four sites have already been sold.

The126-lot estate is located on Barnes Avenue and offers:
  • affordable homesites;
  • elevated land within walking distance of central Australind;
  • a scenic location with views of the Ferguson Valley and estuary glimpses;
  • a beautiful location at the junction of two rivers;
  • and many lots with impressively wide frontages.

The land release offers 61 lots ranging from 591sqm to 818sqm, with an average size of 685sqm. Many have wide frontages and include boundary fencing and front landscaping.

To take advantage of the special offer now available at Australind Heights-Twin Rivers, homebuyers can call Allwest First National on (08) 9797 1000 or visit www.australindheights.com.au.

Funding boost available for Wellard community groups

Applications are now open for the new The Village at Wellard community grants program and local community groups, projects or events looking for a funding boost are being encouraged to apply.

Since its inception four years ago, the program has provided 34 different community projects with around $45,000 in much needed funds.

For 2009, the community grants program – which is funded by joint venture partners the Department of Housing and Works and Peet Limited – is taking a new approach, with applications for grants of up to $1,000 being accepted on an ongoing basis, making it easier for new groups starting up at The Village at Wellard to apply during the year.

Peet Limited Managing Director Brendan Gore said the community grants program was an important part of the project’s commitment to building the local community.

“The changes that have been made to the program recognise the growth of the community over the past 12-months,” said Mr Gore. “It’s really pleasing to see the number of new groups starting up and it’s important that support is available to them,” he said.

“In most cases the grants are “seed funding” that helps volunteer groups, service agencies, sporting clubs, individuals, and associations kick-start a project or an event, or strengthen their position in the community.”

This year priority will be given to projects and activities that The Village at Wellard residents, demonstrate a high level of local community support and have partnerships or involvement with other local groups.

The program always looks to support groups and organizations working in a range of areas, from environmental, art, youth, heritage and culture, to sporting, leisure and recreation. If your group or organisation can contribute to The Village at Wellard’s sense of community pride and identity the grants team would like to hear from you.

Last year’s successful grant recipients included the Kwinana Little Athletics Club – which is currently enjoying its first season at its new home at the Wellard Community Pavilion and oval, the West Coast Blues Club, Leda Junior Football Club (also based at the Wellard Community Pavilion), Kwinana Tigers Hockey Club, The Smith Family – The Coffee Mob, North Parmelia Little Athletics Club and The Town of Kwinana’s ‘The Children’s Party’.

All interested community groups should contact Erin Borrett at Creating Communities Australia at erin@creatingcommunities.com.au or on 9284 0910 to discuss their request and obtain advice about their projects and grant application.
