The design guidelines for the proposed Village Centre at The Village at Wellard have been approved by the Town of Kwinana Council paving the way for development of the site which is set to become a vibrant hub for the local community.
The Wellard Village Centre, located adjacent to the new Wellard Train Station, is a return to traditional neighbourhood design with a defined town centre and traditional main street.
It is designed to incorporate a mix of retail, commercial, civic and residential components and over time will include a local supermarket, cafes, medical services, a newsagency, child care centre and a community centre.
Peet Limited Managing Director Brendan Gore said they were pleased to have reached this milestone.
“The Village Centre has been designed to cater for the shopping, entertainment, employment and social needs of the community,” said Mr Gore.
“Through careful planning, nearly all of The Village at Wellard homes will be within a short walk of the Village Centre providing all residents with easy access to the facilities they are looking for,” said Mr Gore.
The design guidelines will be used to guide the architectural form of the development of the Village Centre, ensuring a coordinated approach and a consistency of building quality.
The architectural character will be of a contemporary nature featuring composite external finishes, with primary wall materials such as painted render, stone work, or face brick complimented by minor elements of light weight cladding materials, accent colours and alternative materials.
