Expert advice for creating fashionable, functional and water-wise homes will be on offer over the next two weekends at the new builders display village at Lakelands Private Estate.
Renew Environmental consultant Sarah Molloy will be available between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 29 March and Sunday 30 March to personally discuss water-wise measures for the home and garden.
“Garden watering accounts for more than half the water used by households and there are many easy ways to create a water-wise garden, like using a drip-irrigation system, planting native plants and taking care of the soil,” Ms Molloy said.
Ms Molloy will also give visitors to Lakelands advice on water-saving measures for the home, including some which will also save householders money.
“Being water-wise doesn’t necessarily mean spending more and there is an assortment of water-wise home appliances, such as washing machines, which consumers can get rebates for,” she said.
“Some items, such as tap valves and low-flow shower heads, are available at a relatively low-cost and in the long-run, will save on the cost of water and power.”
As well as water-wise tips, Interior Design Consultant Jane Fyfe from 4 Rooms design consultancy will be on hand from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 5 April and Sunday 6 April to offer Perth homeowners a little design inspiration and expert design advice.
“Your home is your sanctuary and it needs to suit your lifestyle and reflect your personality whilst being functional,” Mrs Fyfe said.
“Selecting finishes and colours for your home is stressful as there is far too much choice available in the current market.”
“With input of your ideas and a structured approach to the building process I can offer advise to help the process flow relatively smoothly. The key is to establish likes, dislikes and a starting point that can be built upon.”
Mrs Fyfe said homes are becoming more individual and unique especially with smaller lots and more interesting floor plans, with greater consideration given to lifestyle.
“Everyone has different lifestyles and use parts of their home in various ways, and colours and design will impact upon its functionality,” she said.
“For example, around a kitchen bench on any night of the week there may be someone preparing a meal, another person sitting chatting on the phone and someone else doing homework. Design elements have to be considered to suit everyone in the home.”
The special sessions at Lakelands by Ms Fyfe and Ms Molloy are part of a series of initiatives organised to celebrate the opening of the new builders display village at the estate.
The village is one of the southern suburbs’ most comprehensive builders display villages, featuring 21 new home designs from some of Perth most renowned builders.
The village showcases many styles specifically suited to Lakelands Private Estate and prospective residents can walk through the various display homes including cottage houses and traditional and homestead living options.
The whole family is invited down to enjoy the other activates at Lakelands including face-painting, an animal petting farm and roving bands.
